FREE - PHIL SHORT CAVE EXPLORATION TALK
Boy's own tales of derring-do in Russia...

Ever wondered what it takes to mount an expedition to dive an unexplored cave system in an uncharted region of the world where the nearest town is literally days away across some of the roughest and most inhospitible terrain you could ever encounter? Here's your chance to find out!

On the 2nd February, visitors to Vobster Quay will hear first hand what its like from world-renowned cave explorer, Phil Short. Phil will be presenting a fascinating talk on his expeditions to dive an unexplored cave system in a remote area of Siberia in Northern Russia. With real 'boys own' grit and determination, Phil and his team explored a cave system that had until then remained a mystery. For anyone interested in cave diving and cutting edge exploration, this talk is not to be missed!

FREE - SURFACE INTERVAL TALKS
More fascinating talks coming soon...

Look out for more of our popular 'Surface Interval talks' over the next few months! We're working hard to bring you an exciting itinerary of talks from the likes of the RNLI Sea Safety Team, the Marine Conservation Society and the infamous 'men in black' from the home of DIR, Global Underwater Explorers - as always, watch the website for dates! -- More

MARINE RESERVES NOW! CAMPAIGN
You can make a difference!

The Marine Reserves Now! campaign has raised a staggering level of interest in UK marine reserves but still only .002% of UK seas are protected. This is the best chance to get a system in place to preserve the incredible areas of the uk, so please support the MCS - visit the MCS website and sign up to put pressure on the powers that be to push through the Marine Bill that comes before Parliament later this year.

Those of you who dive sites around Lyme Bay might also be interested in the work of Save LymeBay Reefs which campaigns to restrict scallop dredging away from some of the UK's best Pink Sea Fan reefs. We urge you to show them your support today!

DRYSUIT + UNDERSUIT + TRAINING FOR £500!
Dump that semidry this winter...

Still diving in a semi-dry? Cold, innit? What you need is a lovely warm drysuit... and have we got a deal for you! For all budding 'dry baggers' out there, we're offering a complete drysuit package (drysuit + undersuit) and an all-important drysuit training course for a special price of £500!

This exclusive offer will get you into an ultra-tough Typhoon ProSport Membrane drysuit along with a toasty warm 100gm undersuit. To ensure that you don't end up surfacing feet first with a bruised and battered ego, we're also throwing in a PADI Drysuit Specialty course to teach you the dos and don'ts of drysuit diving. This comprehensive course serves as the perfect introduction to dry suit diving and will help you to develop the skills, knowledge and techniques necessary to safely dive a drysuit.

NIGHT DIVING
Our monthly night dives have proved to be very popular this year with lots of members discovering how relaxing a post-work dive can be. We're keeping them going throughout 2008 so make sure you scribble the first Thursday of every month in your diaries! -- More

NOTE - Our next night dive is on the 6th March

NEW SAFETY BOAT
We're pleased to unveil our latest improvement in diver safety - a 16ft Humber inflatable with a 40hp Mariner outboard. Taking over the safety duties from our older - and smaller - inflatable, the new boat is a welcome addition to the site's existing safety provision.

Commenting on the new boat, site manager Tim Clements added "We're constantly looking at new ways to improve the site and safety is our top priority. When seconds count, our new boat allows us to respond faster than ever before." -- More

SITE IMPROVEMENTS
Word is out and more people are discovering the benefits of Vobster! To help cater for dive schools and member parking reservations, we're working hard to increase the size of the waterside car park. We know parking near the water is close to your heart and we'll make sure you're not disappointed...

SANTA SUCCESS!
We're pleased to say that the charity diving Santa day on the 22nd December was a roaring success with the event getting coverage on the regional news programme, BBC Points West.

BBC Reporter Sitala Peek braved the winter waters to get in on the action herself - you can read her account of the day here.

HEATED INDOOR AREA
If the weather seams to grim for diving, we now have an inside heated seating area next door to the diveshop.

It's fast becoming a friendly bolthole from the elements to drink tea in between dives and the banter helps keep everyone warm! Plus there's even a TV, DVD player and music system in there to keep you entertained if the dive talk starts to bore...

FRAMED WRECK PHOTOS
If you appreciate underwater photography then you'll love the stunning photographic work of Vobster regular, Gareth Lock.

Featuring eye-popping wreck photos from the Red Sea and Scapa Flow, we're pleased to be able to offer a select range of Gareth's work through the Vobster Quay shop - all beautifully framed and ready to hang on your wall at home!
