Meet Your Instructor... Phil Short

Phil Short started diving in 1990 and rapidly worked his way up the PADI ranks to become a Master Instructor.

During this period, Phil began developing his technical diving skills through training with Kevin Gurr and in 1993 was involved in forming one of the first Trimix wreck diving teams in the UK. He is now one of the UK's foremost IANTD Instructor Trainers and is actively involved in exploration projects around the world.

Phil has been diving professionally for 15 years and has logged over 5000 in caves and open water using both open and closed circuit equipment.

IANTD Advanced Nitrox
£250 Four Days
IANTD Adv Recreational Trimix
£275 Four Days
The foundation courses for safe self sufficient diving. The Advanced Nitrox course cover the core skills from the technical diver training programs including the use of twin sets with central isolation manifolds and decompression skills and procedures using bottom mixes upto 40% nitrox and decompression mixes upto 100% oxygen to a maximum depth of 42m.

An essential component of both courses is equipment configuration which is covered in a series of lectures and practical workshops. The aim being to construct a safe self sufficient equipment configuration that is streamlined, accessible and promotes familiarity.

The IANTD Advanced Recreational Trimix course can be taken as an alternative to the IANTD Advanced Nitrox course for those divers who wish to take advantage of the reduced narcosis and associated safety benefits that helium-based bottom mixes offer. In addition to the Advanced Nitrox syllabus, the Advanced Recreational Trimix course covers the use of two standard recreational trimix bottom mixes - 32/15 and 28/25 - to a maximum depth of 48m.

Both courses run over 4 days during which time you will complete 5 dives, all theory and various practical development sessions.
IANTD Technical Nitrox
£300 Four Days
This course develops the basic skills and knowledge gained at IANTD Advanced Nitrox level to a point that extended range dives beyond the sport diving limits can be conducted safely.

The course covers a broad level of theory and skills, focusing on the bailout procedures needed to conduct extended range dives. A major emphasis on the theory is dive planning for all failure scenarios. The course develops the core survival skills such as isolation manifold shutdowns to a higher level of performance, giving the diver increased confidence to conduct extended range dives.

The course runs over 4 days during which time you will complete 5 dives, all theory and various practical development sessions and dive planning workshops.
IANTD Normonix Trimix
£225 / £550 (Combined) Three Days / Six Days
This course gives the technical or extended range diver the ability to increase their safety and enjoyment of dives in the 40m+ range by the addition of helium to their breathing mix.

The course is designed to be run in conjunction with the Technical Nitrox course as a continuous program, but can also be run as a top up to the Technical Nitrox course for divers already qualified at that level. The course covers the dive planning, physiology and skills to utilise the safety advantage of using Helium in the breathing mixture whilst at depth.

If run in conjunction with a Technical Nitrox course the duration is 6 days in total and covers 2 dives using Normoxic Trimix, all theory and various practical development sessions in addition to the course content of the Technical Nitrox course. If run as a top up module the course duration is 3 days and covers 3 dives, all theory and various practical development sessions.

If run as a combined Technical Nitrox and Normoxic Trimix program, the course cost is £550.00 including IANTD course manual and certification. If run as a top up module for a Technical Nitrox Diver, the course cost is £225.00 including IANTD certification.
IANTD Trimix
£550 Six Days
The aim of this course is to develop the diver's skills, ability and knowledge to enable safe diving in the Trimix depth range.

It includes extensive dive planning workshops covering all bailout scenarios, run time management and choice of gases. The diver's skills are developed to the highest level to promote self sufficiency and safety and practised on all course dives.

The course runs over 6 days during which time you will conduct 6 dives including 3 on Trimix, all theory and various practical development skills.

IANTD Overhead Environment
£275 Three Days
The aim of the program is to train the diver in the equipment, skills and procedures of diving in an overhead environment. The main focus points being on equipment configuration, line drills and use of line reels and developing self sufficiency and safety through skills development. The course can be completed as either an OHE wreck or an OHE cavern course.

The course is run over 3 days during which time you will complete 5 dives, 4 of which will be in an overhead environment, all theory and various practical development skills sessions. We also run a week long OHE Cavern package to Menorca including flights, accommodation and the course. Please contact us for details.
IANTD Intro To Cave
£350 Four Days
The course is designed to progress the divers skills to allow diving beyond the cavern zone of cave OHE. It introduces the diver to self sufficiency skills utilising isolation manifold twin sets and dual outlet cylinders, line following and laying and emergency procedures. The course can be run in conjunction with the OHE cavern course as a continuous program.

The course runs over 4 days during which time you will complete 6 dives, all theory and various practical skills development sessions.
IANTD Full Cave
£550 Six Days
The course is designed to take the diver through all training necessary to pan and conduct dives in the cave diving environment. The emphasis is placed on developing the diver's equipment configuration, buoyancy control and propulsion techniques to enable safe and efficient cave dives to be made. Line following, line laying and use of reels are covered extensively as are safety skills such as isolation manifold use, gas shares and light failure drills. A major part of the course is the development of team diving procedures and communication.

The course runs over 6 days during which time you will conduct a minimum of 12 cave dives, all theory and various practical training sessions.
IANTD Advanced Cave
£250 (per module) Three Days (per module)
The Advanced Cave diver course consists of four distinct modules which can be conducted back to back, in pairs or individually...
  • Side Mount Diver - The course trains the diver in the use of both side and no mount equipment configurations for the cave diving environment with an emphasis on equipment configuration and safety procedures.

  • Multiple Stage Diving - The course extends the cave divers cave penetration capabilities by the use of staging multiple cylinders throughout the planed inward swim. The emphasis is on gas management planning and emergency procedures.

  • Cave Surveying - The course teaches the diver to gather survey data during cave dives to be used post dive to draw up maps and surveys of cave passages and includes a review of survey tools and equipment and team projects to gather data and produce surveys.

  • DPV Diver - The course trains the diver in the safe operation of diver propulsion vehicles, firstly in the open water to develop skills then in the cave environment to put the learnt skills in to practice. The course covers emergency procedures including DPV failure, diver tows and gas shares whilst using DPV's.

The IANTD DPV Diver course may be run as a module of the IANTD Advanced Cave program in the cave environment or in the Open water environment as a stand alone course.
